Together, led by Rabbi Shub, we will learn traditional (Ashkenazic) trope for all public Biblical readings of the Jewish year. We will also examine non-legal texts such as Midrash and Hassidic works that may aid us in finding meaning in the traditional liturgy.<\/p>\n

Participants Wanted for a Study About Jewish Life and Language in New England<\/strong><\/p>\n

A researcher from the University of New Hampshire is looking for participants for a study of language and Jewish life in New England. Participation will take no more than 45 minutes and will include a short interview, reading sentences and words out loud, telling a few stories, and answering some demographic questions and questions about language use.<\/p>\n

You need to be 18 years of age or older to participate; you do not need to be native to New England. People of all backgrounds (Jewish-by-birth, Jewish-by-choice, non-Jewish, etc.) are welcome.<\/p>\n

There are no risks or benefits to participating in this study, and your participation will remain anonymous. You can stop participation at any time. Participants who finish the interview will be entered into a drawing for one of five $25 Amazon gift cards.<\/p>\n

Jacob Cousins Memorial<\/h2>\n

Unveiled in September 1935, the Jacob Cousins Memorial was part of an ongoing nationwide effort to highlight both the patriotism of Jewish Americans and their contribution during times of conflict. The memorial is a key artifact in the history of the Jewish community in southern Maine linking past to present and inspiring visitors to remember, respect and contemplate the cost of war.<\/p>\n

In its current state the memorial is difficult to view and appreciate as it faces directly onto Eastern promenade Drive. Friends of the Eastern promenade is raising funds to redesign this historic landmark.<\/p>\n
