Announcements

No Shabbat services until after the fall holidays after which time we are planning Shabbat morning services only once a month, dates to be announced. The month of Elul is upon us. It is traditional to hear the shofar blown each day. We plan to hold in-person services for the High Holidays and the first and last days of Sukkot, indoors with masks. Please see the schedule below.

Shaarey Tphiloh is grateful to Rabbi Shub for leading the congregation for the past 3 years. Rabbi Shub has decided to pursue graduate studies in clinical counseling and we wish him hatzlacha in his new endeavors. 


Book of Remembrance Update
 
This year, the Book of Remembrance will be updated on a regular basis throughout the year, in the online version, which can be located on our website under the Resources tab. It is password protected, so please email the office: maineshul@gmail.com to obtain the password. If you have contributed to the Yizkor book in the past, we would appreciate your donation of $18 to maintain the names of your loved ones in the online listing. For new donors, please send $36 to Shaarey Tphiloh Synagogue, 400 Deering Ave., Portland, Maine 04103 with your name(s), email and/or phone number and the name(s) of those being remembered by you and we will add your loved ones to the book. You can do this at any time throughout the year and it will be added to our Remembrance Book. 

High Holiday services 5782 (2021)!

We plan to hold services indoors with masks required for all with the exception of the vaccinated prayer leaders, Torah readers and shofar sounders during their active portions of the service. All are welcome at services free of charge, but we ask that anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms please refrain from joining the congregation until they feel better and have no symptoms. We are pleased to announce that rabbinic student Micah Cowan and Eitan Kahn will be our chazzanim this year. 

First night Rosh Hashana, Monday, Sept. 6 - Candlelighting at 6:49pm
Maariv (Evening service) at 6:45pm
First and second day Rosh Hashana, Tuesday and Wednesday Sept. 7 & 8 - 
Shacharit (Morning service) at 8:30am
First and second day of RH: Mincha/Maariv and Tashlich on your own
Candlelighting Tues. 9/7 at 7:49pm and Havdalah Wed. 9/8 at 7:47pm

Erev Yom Kippur, Wed. Sept. 15 - Candlelighting at 6:32pm, fast begins
Kol Nidrei at 6:30pm
Yom Kippur, Thursday Sept. 16 - Shacharit (Morning service) at 8:30am
Mincha (Afternoon service) at 5:15pm and Neilah (concluding service) at 6:30pm
Havdalah and fast ends at 7:32pm
